Feeling great…

January 7th, 2008 mark No comments

I feel amazing after the run today. So many things about it were great:

  • personal best for 1K
  • 1st time running for at least 5 weeks
  • ran 5K without having to pause for a breather
  • breathing technique felt right
  • good mental strength to get through it (used projection to get me past each hurdle, I’ll write more about this later)

I have a 5K run on Saturday (BUPA Edinburgh Winter Run). Should be a nice goal to get round and do a good job. I’ll run at least 2 more times this week before doing that on Saturday.

After that I’m going to start planning for the 10K in April. I’ve done 2 10Ks before (both in just over an hour) but this time I’m really going to train properly for it. I’m not sure what a target time will be (maybe 55 minutes).

The goal after that is a half marathon at the end of the summer. I don’t think I’ll move up to marathon running though - too much time involved and I don’t think it is great for your body…

This is pretty much just a random blog tonight but I will start keeping each entry focused to one topic otherwise anyone reading it will just think I’m a rambling madman.

Looking forward to a good week. Cheers, Mark.

Personal Best!

January 6th, 2008 mark No comments

Fanbloodytastic - I just did my first proper run (5K) and got a personal best of 5.46 for a kilometre. I know that isn’t fast to some people but it felt great to me (also got a congratualtions from Paula Radcliffe on my nike+).

I’m still sweating and going to take a shower but I was too excited to wait for my first super positive blog entry. I’ll be back with more later.

Start your engines!

Start your engines!

Here goes…. First blog on my site about getting fit, learning to run and just feeling better about myself.

I meant to start running last night. I had all the gear looked out and eager to go when a massive snowfall happened. This is pretty rare in Scotland these days so I didn’t have an alternative action plan. So I ended up working and watching a bit of TV - bloody typical.

So I planned to run tonight but it was still too icy and I didn’t fancy breaking my leg. Instead I watched the Bourne Ultimatum (pretty fucking cool) and then came out for a power walk with the dog. I figure a good 30 minute walk at a fast pace is a good starter for 10. I’m now standing at the top of Stirling Golf Course looking at the most amazing castle in the world and feeling v. Inspired.

Running starts tomorrow morning…
